Workshop “Imaging neural activity in sensory systems: experimental and modeling approach”

The workshop provided an overview of different approaches used for visualization of neuronal activity from cellular to systems level, including functional brain mapping, electrophysiological techniques and cutting-edge optical imaging methods. The review of experimental techniques was completed by presentations of modeling methods and tools to quantify neuronal dynamics. The aim of the workshop was to show advantages and limitations of different approaches. The course consisted of a series of lectures and practicals by local and external experts followed by discussions. Lectures were given by distinguished Polish and foreign speakers: Amos Arieli (Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot, Israel), Rembrandt Bakker and Dirk Schubert (Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour, Nijmegen, Netherlands), Gaute Einevoll (Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Ås, Norway), Petra Henrich-Noack (Institute of Medical Psychology, Otto-von-Guericke University, Magdeburg, Germany ), Paweł Hottowy (AGH University of Science and Technology, Krakow, Poland), Zoltán Kisvárday (University of Debrecen, Hungary), David Lyon (University of California, Irvine, USA), Artur Łuczak (University of Lethbridge, Canada) and Klaus Obermayer (Technische Universität Berlin, Germany). The Nencki Institute was represented by Ewa Kublik, Gabriela Mochol, Szymon Łęski and Artur Marchewka. Sessions were chaired by Małgorzata Kossut and Andrzej Wróbel.
